The flavor of tequila and orange juice is not always appealing to everyone, and vodka is a perfectly acceptable substitute. What’s more, strictly speaking of presentation, vodka’s clear color makes the drink take on a more pleasing color. Here are recipes for not only a traditional vodka sunrise, but a few variations on it for those who would like to mix things up a bit.
TRADITIONAL VODKA SUNRISE
The drink is basically a screwdriver with one extra ingredient – grenadine. This adds a gorgeous color and lends the drink its name.
1 oz. vodka
5 oz. orange juice
1 shot grenadine
Shake vodka and orange juice over ice, then strain into a glass. Top with grenadine.

2 oz. apricot liqueur
2 oz. orange juice
Ginger ale or Sprite
Shake vodka, apricot liqueur, and orange juice over ice, then strain into a glass. Fill with soda.
This drink is as beautiful as a sunrise over the Arizona desert.
1 1/2 oz. vodka
1/2 oz. Rose’s Sweetened Lime Juice
4 oz. orange juice
1 oz. grenadine
Shake vodka, lime juice, and orange juice over ice, then strain into a glass. Top with grenadine.
This elegant variation of the vodka sunrise is a great way to end a tasty Italian supper!
1 1/4 oz. vodka
3/4 oz. Campari
1/4 oz. limoncello
3/4 oz. orange juice
3/4 oz. sweet and sour
Shake and strain this drink into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a lemon spiral.
